
Michael Murphy, Project Manager for Diversified Consulting Services (DCS), has convened a series of coordination meetings for the Humboldt–Rubies Trail (HRT) Feasibility Study. Stakeholders have included the Nevada Department of Transportation, the City of Elko, Elko County, the California Trail Center, the Spring Creek Association, and the Elko Trail System Initiative.
The process culminated in a final public meeting on Monday, February 9, 2026. Humboldt-Rubies Trail feasibility study public input presentation. With input gathered from agency partners, community organizations, and the general public, DCS is now moving into the project scoping phase.

The DCS team, led by long-time Elko resident Michael Murphy, is committed to researching best routes, identifying functional engineering designs, and incorporating public involvement at workshops and meetings. Their kickoff meeting On September 9th involved representatives from Nevada Department of Transportation, City of Elko, Elko County, the California Trail Heritage Alliance and Elko Trail System Initiative. The HR Trail connects Elko county's western border town of Carlin to Lamoille Canyon. The trail creates continuity among existing bicycle-friendly routes, building connections, and enhancing the overall experience for cyclists, pedestrians and nature enthusiasts.
